Designed to address the challenges faced by companies and individuals inspecting Height Safety Installations, this course is a comprehensive look at system design, industry issues and the requirements of compliance for those who Work at Heights and rely on these systems to keep us safe.

Based on relevant Australian Standards, this course will expand on the competencies and knowledge needed to inspect and certify Height Safety Systems, including Anchorages, Static Lines, Fixed Ladders, Guard rails and more.

This one day course has been developed with Industry experts and Manufacturer partners, and is designed to satisfy the requirements for Competency required by AS/NZS1891.4, Appendix E.

Course Outline

This Competency Based Training is a one-day course (approximately 6-8 hours) and provides knowledge and skills for those inspecting and certifying Height Safety Systems. The course includes:

  • Competencies required for inspection and certification
  • Legislation, Codes of practice and compliance documentation
  • Identifying Hazards and Controlling Risks
  • Safely Accessing the Work Area
  • Inspection of Anchorages, Horizontal lines, fixed ladders and guardrails in accordance with Australian Standards
  • Manufacturer Guidelines and Requirements
  • Record keeping and Liability
  • Considerations for Inspection and Certification in Australia

Note: There is no formal training or certification required to inspect height safety systems. This course does not provide a licence or accreditation to undertake these activities, but rather provides underpinning knowledge and an awareness of the relevant Standards, Technical Advisories, Manufacturers etc to aid individuals and companies engaged in these activities.

Learning Objectives

This course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to inspect, test, maintain, certify, and document height safety systems and equipment in accordance with relevant Australian Standards, manufacturer specifications, and workplace procedures.

Prerequisites

You must have completed the national unit of competency RIISWHS204D/E ‘Working Safely At Heights’ to attend this course, or equivalent. This course is aimed at individuals who have prior knowledge, skills and experience of working at height and does require reading, writing and numeracy skills. Please contact 5th Point prior to enrolment to discuss our support services if required.

All students who enrol in this course must bring a Unique Student Identifier (USI) number with them.
