Description
With instruction and practical training in line with legal, workplace and community considerations, Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and other Australian national peak clinical bodies, this first aid course teaches the skills and knowledge to recognise emergencies and provide immediate and effective first aid treatment to any person suffering a sudden illness or injury.
5th Point offers the nationally recognised HLTAID011 Provide First Aid unit of competency, in a half-day course, to businesses and individuals. Fully certified TAE Trainers with relevant industry experience deliver the course materials, ensuring that a wealth of experience underpins the training that we offer. Training and assessment delivered on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909.
Course Type & Duration
Online with face-to-face
60 – 120 minutes (practical) + pre-course reading and formative assessment tasks (approx. 5.5 hours)
Course Outline
Pre-course learning includes:
- Basic Anatomy
- Responding to an emergency situation
- Perform CPR
- Using and AED
- Providing an effective Handover and Debrief
- Post Traumatic Stress
- Medical (Allergic reaction and anaphylaxis; Asthma; Cardiac conditions, including chest pain; Stroke; Diabetes; Seizures)
- Trauma (Non-life-threatening and life-threatening bleeding; Choking; Shock; Sharps injuries; Nose-bleed; Eye-injuries; Fractures, dislocations, strains and sprains, Head, neck, and spinal injuries)
- Environmental (Drowning; Envenomation; Hypothermia; Hyperthermia; Poisoning)
Face-to-Face Practical Assessments includes:
- Performance Task – Adult CPR (including defibrillation and managing an unconscious breathing casualty)
- Performance Task – Infant CPR
- Performance Task – Medical, Trauma & Environmental
- Anaphylaxis
- Asthma
- Choking
- Non-life-threatening bleeding, minor wound cleaning and shock
- Nosebleeds
- Fractures and dislocations
- Sprains and strains
- Envenomation (snake / funnel-web spider bites)
Learning Objectives
This course equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills to recognise and respond to a range of first aid emergencies. Participants will learn to assess casualties, provide appropriate first aid for common injuries and medical conditions, perform CPR, use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and communicate effectively with emergency services while applying current Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and workplace procedures until further medical assistance arrives.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for enrolment in this course.
This course does require reading, writing and numeracy skills. To access the specific LLN form, students will prompted to complete the necessary pre-course assessments in the Allens Training student portal upon registration.
All students who enrol in this course must possess a Unique Student Identifier (USI) number with them.
To obtain a USI, please head to www.usi.gov.au and register. The process takes around 4 min to complete.

Certificate Revalidation
Provide First Aid qualifications are to the revalidated every three years for the full certificate. (The CPR component is required annually).
